【五大訴求 缺一不可 莘莘學子 誓爭到底 - 大專學界回應林鄭月娥九月四日發言之聲明 | Five Demands Not One Less Students with People We Stand - Response Statement from Students’ Unions of Higher Institutions towards Carrie Lam’s Public Announcement on 4 September 2019】

After all the brutal suppressions in the past three months, Carrie Lam publicly claimed that she will withdraw the extradition law amendment bill. It is not only a fatal error in assessing public opinion but also an insult to Hongkongers who have been fighting for freedom and protecting our basic rights, if Carrie Lam naively believes she can put out the fire by simply withdrawing the bill.

The Hong Kong Police Force has been committing unforgivable atrocities, such as torturing protestors, turning a blind eye to the terrorist attacks by the gangsters. Hongkongers have witnessed everything. Carrie Lam, however, chose to cover up for the police, refusing to establish an independent investigative committee. She tried to get away from her responsibility by increasing the number of members of the Independent Police Complaints Council. The two new members, Lam Ting Kwok and Yu Lai Ching Ping are just Carrie Lam’s allies, the former being the senior advisor of Carrie Lam’s campaign office, the latter being the former chairperson of the Bar Association who once expressed support for the local legislation of the National Anthem Law, let alone the Council is just a “toothless tiger” who only has the power to examine but not to investigate. The Council is in fact powerless in monitoring the police force. Lam apparently did not intend to address the police' abuse of power, and she chose to let them get away with all the crime.

The consequences of an executive and political fault shall not be borne by the people. It was Lam’s obstinacy in pushing the amendment bill that drew people’s anger. Carrie Lam arrogantly ignored it all, and has been laying charges on protestors arbitrarily, attempting to spread white terror so as to extinguish all the oppositions. We hereby reiterate that the consequences of the faults made by the regime must be borne by the regime, all charges shall be dropped, no prosecution shall ever be brought and the regime must make express and public statement that none of the protests was a riot.

Hong Kong people have been very clear that there are five demands and we accept no one less. Students’ unions of higher institutions will continue our strike. We have lost eight lives, four eyes and suffered countless injuries. We have reached a point of no return. Students were, are and always will be on the side of Hongkongers, and we vow to stand against the brutality of the regime until the regime fulfils all Hongkongers’ demands, and until justice is seen to be done.

May Glory be to Hong Kong. Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times!
